The Florissant Explorer application is designed for iPhone and iPad devices running iOS 14.3 and higher. It operates in both landscape and portrait mode.
When you first launch the application you will be asked for permission to show your location as you move around. Florissant Explorer uses the Global Positioning System function in your device to locate you as walk the trails of Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. On some days you may get erroneous GPS locations due to the heavy tree canopy above you in summer and fall, so common sense should be your first guide when navigating the trail system.
If you think the location Florissant Explorer is showing is not accurate, you can still use the application by visually inspecting the application's map and selecting stations or just by selecting stations from the list from the main screen. Again, use common sense and stay on the trail system for safety.
During user testing some common issues with iOS setups were revealed that might also effect your usage of Florissant Explorer:
Light mode
We suggest you change your iPhone's appearance to "Light Mode" to best observe the maps and 3d content. You can find this control under Settings>Display and Brightness>Appearance.
Sound
Florissant Explorer is best used without headphones, so that you can use all available senses while moving around the Monument. Please check that you have not muted your iPhone or iPad with the hardware switch usually located on the edge of your device if you can't hear any sound while using the application.
